Concentrated solar power, bioenergies (thermochemical and biological processes), fuel cells and processes linked to the production and use of hydrogen are very important areas of research for Process Engineering. These and other areas are seen as new energy vectors that Process Engineering needs to develop.
The challenge of the future in terms of food is not only an environmental one, but also a scientific and humanitarian one. It is a question of satisfying the increasing needs of a growing world population by adopting new consumption habits and developing alternative foods of plant, animal or mineral origin. Transformation processes also need to be considerably improved in order to add value to all products, while minimizing the impact of technological treatments on the bioavailability of biomolecules in final products.
The pharmaceutical industry should examine potential strategies for improving clinical development productivity and success rates. This should focus on improving the drug optimization process. The efficiency of the R&D process must be taken into consideration, as it is the lever for progress in this field. There are many challenges to consider, from the formulation of a pharmaceutical product to its marketing. Process engineering, with its innovative dynamics, must contribute to overcoming these challenges.
All over the world, people have a great affinity for water. Unfortunately, emerging challenges such as population growth, climate change and water infrastructure collapse can make it hard for many to access clean drinking water. To prevent this from happening, scientists and engineers need to develop solutions adapted to these problems.
